Machine Man decides to join Super-Adaptoid in hopes of reviving his beloved Jocasta. They fi nd and reactivate Kree Sentry #459 and set out to fi nd other robots and androids. As Avengers Mansion is moved to Hydrobase, Captain Marvel reacts to Dr. Druid’s subtle challenges to her authority. The Avengers deduce Super-Adaptoid’s plot to gather artifi cial lifeforms, and Captain Marvel splits the team up to investigate his next likely targets. Black Knight and Dr. Druid retrieve the robot TESS-One, but they are intercepted and defeated by Super-Adaptoid, Machine Man and Sentry. The four robots, now called Heavy Metal, steal a Quinjet and land at Hydrobase.
As revealed in Av #17, ’99, the Doomsday Man in this issue is not the character introduced in SS #13, ’70, but a decoy created by Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM). Hydrobase is distinguished from Avengers Mansion, which is now a building located on Hydrobase. TESSOne’s location is noted as “Colorado” by Captain Marvel and as “a Midwestern Air Force base” in the narration. The Avengers files misnumber the Sentry, showing it to be #451.
