  • Captain America is inspecting the sunken wreckage of Avengers Island with Vision and Wonder Man when Mandarin lands in Avengers Park and attacks police, his actions monitored from afar by his fellow conspirators. Jarvis notifi es Cap of Mandarin’s attack and the inspection team races to intervene. Denouncing Mandarin’s attack as premature Wizard also travels to Avengers Headquarters, but is attacked by Wonder Man upon arrival. At Avengers Compound in California, Agatha Harkness watches as Magneto hurls the Scarlet Witch’s bungalow into Earth orbit with himself and the Witch inside. Mandarin shoots down Cap’s approaching Quinjet but as Hellcat, Black Widow and then Thor arrive, Mandarin departs, leaving Wizard for the Avengers to capture as punishment for his interference. Loki is interrupted from watching Wizard’s interrogation by more infi ghting amongst his “masters,” but Dr. Doom suddenly explodes, revealing himself as a Doombot.

Part of “Acts of Vengeance,” which concludes immediately after this story in AWC #55, ’90. The Red Skull seen here is a robot; Magneto imprisoned the real Skull in Cap #367, ’90 and Machinesmith released a robot so no one would notice Red Skull’s absence in Cap #368, ’90. The robot is destroyed in Av Ann #19/3, ’90 fb. Sean Watanabe, who would become the vigilante Brass, was present during the Mandarin’s attack, which indirectly led to his fiancé’s death and his vow of vengeance against the Mandarin, as seen in MCP #69, ’91 fb.
