  • The Kingpin has gone into hiding and the Schemer believes it’s time to take over. He sends men out to hijack one of the Kingpin’s trucks. Spidey steps in, fighting both gangs and taking photos. Elsewhere, Vanessa, the Kingpin’s wife, fi nds a news clipping revealing her son Richard is feared dead in the Alps. She believes Richard committed suicide after learning his father was a criminal. Peter only gets five dollars a photo from Jameson, then joins Gwen, MJ, and Harry to see Flash off at the airport. Later, the Schemer’s men intentionally sideswipe a Kingpin truck, toppling it onto pedestrians Gwen and Peter. Gwen is knocked unconscious while Peter holds the truck up with his back. He props it with a sheared-off parking meter and puts a spider-tracer on the car. The paramedics think the parking meter saved them and take Gwen to the hospital. Peter, as Spidey, tracks his spider-tracer and crashes the Schemer’s headquarters but the Schemer traps him within his desk/overhead light hydraulic press. Spidey pushes back, causing an explosion. The Schemer escapes while Peter returns to the hospital where Gwen is asking for him. When he arrives, however, she rebuffs him for not being there. Carelessly, Peter tells Captain Stacy he should be used to people not knowing the truth about him, raising Stacy’s suspicions.

Kingpin escapes in car driven by Vanessa from ASM #70, ’69.

Richard’s last name revealed in DD #170, ’81. As is revealed in ASM #85, the Schemer is really Richard Fisk trying to destroy his father’s criminal organization by posing as a rival criminal. Though Richard’s Schemer identity is comparatively short lived, he will later revisit the idea of posing as a crimelord to destroy his father when he becomes the Rose in ASM #253, ’84.
