Jarvis takes the day off to meet Lupe Santiago, a foster child he has been sponsoring in Costa Verde, but the Magnum Force hijacks her plane, and when it lands they and their shape-shifting ally Silverclaw terrorize the airport. Back at Avengers Mansion, Justice and Firestar try on new Wasp-designed costumes, but Firestar deems her outfit too revealing and modifies it. Thor tells Captain America he will be less available due to personal matters, Hawkeye fumes over the Thunderbolts giving reformed villains a bad name, and Scarlet Witch feels increasingly isolated within the team. Jarvis’ distress call brings the Avengers to Kennedy Airport, where the Magnum Force cages them and the Force’s employer Moses Magnum gloats via hologram, but new super hero Triathlon frees the Avengers. Rallying despite this, Magnum Force overwhelms the Avengers while Silverclaw overpowers Cap. Cap orders Scarlet Witch to conjure up Wonder Man, but she refuses, uneasy about using him as a weapon. Triathlon stuns Silverclaw, and late arrivals Thor and Iron Man turn the tide against Magnum Force. The Force’s entire operation, however, was a smokescreen for their theft of an experimental seismic cannon, which they use to damage nearby buildings, allowing the Force to escape with the cannon while the heroes are rescuing civilians and shoring up architecture, though Triathlon stows away aboard the fleeing criminals’ plane. After the battle, Silverclaw reveals that Magnum’s men extorted her aid by threatening passengers, that she cooperated as long as no one was killed, and that she is Lupe Santiago. While Lupe and Jarvis get to know each other, the Avengers research Magnum and Triathlon, and a lonely Scarlet Witch broods in her room where the ghostly Wonder Man appears unbidden. They kiss passionately as Vision phases into the room to check on Wanda, accidentally glimpses the lovers, and departs unnoticed.
