Peter and Gwen have found each other again. Peter wants to propose but won’t until he’s sure he can support her. Afraid his presence could transform Osborn into the Goblin, he abandons his job, returning to the Daily Bugle. When Jonah Jameson orders him to take photos of a riot at the City Pen, Peter holds out for a part-time staff job with salary. As Spider-Man, he nabs a convict guarding the jail’s roof, learning they are rioting to be treated humanely and that the ringleader, Turpo, holds the warden hostage. Eavesdropping, Spidey discovers Turpo is using the riot to cover his own escape. Spidey smashes through the window and stops Turpo and his men. He then informs the doubting rioters that Turpo was using them. Another convict emerges from the warden’s offi ce to confi rm Spidey’s statement, adding that the warden agrees with their grievances. The warden promises amnesty then goes to the press demanding prison reform. As Spidey swings away, a TV talk show host calls to him, inviting him on the show and agreeing to pay their standard rate. Peter brings his photos to Jameson. Robbie tells him salaried employees’ payday is Friday but Peter’s date with Gwen is tonight. Spidey returns to the TV studio in time for taping. He demonstrates his powers, then tells the audience about the problems with the prison system. However, with Spidey still wanted in connection with Captain Stacy’s death, the police close in, forcing the web-slinger to leave before he’s paid. Peter arrives at Gwen’s apartment and admits he is too broke to take her out but Gwen doesn’t care. She has been cooking dinner all afternoon. This is one evening she wants Peter for herself.
