  • Spidey patrols the city, coming upon bank robbers whom he easily defeats. Afterwards, he realizes he’s lost the kick he got from fighting crime and decides he is bored. Realizing Gwen is his life and knowing she still hates Spider-Man, he decides to give up his super-hero identity. Alone at home, with Harry still hospitalized, Peter mixes a formula he designed when he feared his blood’s radioactivity: an untested potion to remove his powers. He drinks it and falls ill, hallucinating past events, then suddenly fi nds himself on a rooftop dressed as Spider-Man. Hearing a familiar voice calling, Spidey tries to locate it but is attacked by the Vulture, the Lizard, the Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, and the Kingpin. They assail him with accusations that he only harms his loved ones, that he’s insane, that he’s never won anything but survival, that he is hated by the public, that he only wanted fame, glory and thrills, and that he’s always been a failure. Knowing none of these villains have the voice he hears, Spidey defeats them, even while developing an intense pain in his sides. He fi nally fi nds the voice, as Captain Stacy appears in the sky and tells him he must accept being Spider-Man as his blessing and curse. Peter awakens from his delirium but his sides ache worse than ever. He removes his shirt and discovers the untested potion has made him more spider than less. Peter has grown four extra arms!
