  • Peter has grown four extra arms! Not expecting the potion to backfi re, Peter never invented an antidote. Gwen calls to ask him out but Peter tells her he’ll be out of town for a long time. Rejected, Gwen promises to not bother him any longer and hangs up. After Pete briefly considers what life might be like with four extra arms, J. Jonah Jameson and Joe Robertson call to assign him a freelance photography job, but Peter declines. Jameson is annoyed but Robbie is worried. Suddenly, Peter thinks to call Curt Connors in Florida and ask to use Connors’ Southampton lab. Curt agrees. Spidey heads out, taking some time to overcome the ballast issues of four extra arms. Arriving at Connor’s place, he sets to work. Offshore, a ship’s crew panics over their captain’s death. They blame the death on a castaway they rescued the night before and attack him. The castaway escapes and hides out until evening, emerging as the vampire Morbius , who sucks the crew’s blood, killing them all. Overcome with remorse at daybreak, Morbius dives into the sea but survives, spending the day asleep in the Connors’ house’s belfry. Awakening at sunset, he discovers Spider-Man there and attacks, knocking him out. As Morbius prepares to slake his thirst, Curt Connors arrives. When Morbius leaps at him, he turns into the Lizard. Spidey awakens to find himself the prize sought by two competing monsters.

Morbius’ first name revealed in ASM #102, ’71.
