Spider-Man follows the car that picked up Flash and sees it ambushed by a car and semi-truck. The attackers lob gas pellets and move in but Spidey intercedes until struck by a seven-foot man in a chauffeur’s outfi t; the Giant One. Toppling the giant, Spidey notices that the assailants are all Asian. He snatches Flash, brings him to a rooftop, and demands an explanation. Flash tells him the story of the Hidden Temple, that the apparent deaths of the Priest and his daughter haunt him, and that the military picked him up to protect him. Spidey takes Flash to the Federal Building, then returns home. There, a visiting Aunt May fi nds a sticky goo seeping under Peter’s bedroom door; an overturned vial of web fl uid, though it is dismissed as one of Pete’s chemistry class experiments. Gwen rushes in, upset about Flash and Peter accompanies her to the Federal Building where he spots the Giant One. Concocting an excuse, Peter slips away and plants a spider-tracer on the giant. Seconds later, an explosion plunges the building into darkness and two men grab Flash. Under cover of darkness, Peter steps in but the Giant One subdues him and Flash is abducted. Peter doesn’t dare follow because he is out of costume. Hoping to follow, he tells Gwen he has things to do but she begs him to stay. Pete knows he’s Flash’s only chance but he can’t leave and let Gwen think him gutless. His only other choice, he thinks, is to admit that he’s Spider-Man.
Flash wounded and separated from his platoon in Vietnam, fi nds the idyllic Hidden Temple. The High Priest and his daughter nurse him to health. He returns to his unit, fi nding them preparing to shell the vicinity. Flash tries to warn the Priest but the shelling destroys the area. The Priest’s followers believe Flash pinpointed the Temple for destruction and put a price on his head.
