Mary Jane witnesses a woman’s murder from her apartment. Spider-Man, swinging by, visits as Peter and asks her to reveal the killer, but fearing for her life, MJ refuses. Investigating later, Spidey is attacked by the killer: the Vulture! Knocked from a roof, Spidey ends up unconscious in an alley. Recovering, he heads to the Baxter Building to work on his Spider-Mobile with the Human Torch, then retreats to his pad for some breakfast and a less-than-cordial encounter with Harry before heading to ESU to try to talk to MJ again. While there, the Vulture, attacks and abducts MJ from Flash Thompson’s convertible, attempting to silence her, causing a crash that knocks Flash unconscious. Blowing off Professor Warren, Peter changes to Spidey and trails the Vulture who, seeing him, drops MJ to force Spidey to save her. Spidey follows him to an ESU biology lab where the Vulture threatens lab assistant Christine Murrow. During the battle, Spidey notices that his foe has actually transformed into a human vulture. Outside, the Vulture again targets MJ but Spidey blinds him with webbing and he accidentally grabs Spidey instead, hoisting him high into the sky. Removing the webbing and seeing his hostage, the Vulture releases his grip, letting Spidey plummet from high above from where he can web to safety.
