Grizzly and the Jackal take Peter Parker to the Jackal’s lab, where Peter is knocked unconscious. He wakes in the Daily Bugle lobby, attended by Betty and Ned. Concerned, they take him to a coffee shop where he discovers a metal harness on his arm. The Jackal speaks through the harness, claiming it is a homing device that will vibrate Pete’s arm to dust if he tries to remove it. After a brief stopover to move into his apartment where he and Flash meet Glory Grant, Peter heads to ESU where he removes the harness without consequences. At the Bugle, Spidey learns that Jonah ruined the Grizzly’s wrestling career. After fi nding the Jackal’s townhouse empty, Spidey locates the Grizzly at his old gym, looking for payback on his former colleagues. Using his webbing, Spidey strips Markham of his suit and exoskeleton. He promises that the Jackal will be next.
Peter fi nds a new apartment. Grizzly attacks Bugle. Peter knocked out by Jackal, (ASM #139, ’74). Maxwell Markham’s brutal wrestling techniques convince JJJ to write editorials against him prompting the wrestling commission to ban him.
The harness was a ruse intended to steer Peter to ESU’s lab where the Jackal, as Professor Warren, observed him changing to Spider-Man, confirming his suspicions as revealed in ASM #153, ’76 letter page.
