  • Distracted by Aunt May's failing health, Peter rushes home with her medicine, ignoring criminals he passes. Meanwhile, Electro, a new costumed criminal begins a crime wave. Peter brings Aunt May to a hospital and Betty visits to keep her company. The next day, Electro holds up a bank while Jameson is there and he spreads a story claiming that Electro and Spider-Man are the same person. Desperate to obtain the money for Aunt May's hospital bills, Peter sets out as Spider-Man to capture Electro and claim the reward. However, Electro defeats him. Peter creates false photos "proving" Electro is Spider-Man in order to win a $1,000 reward from Jameson. The real Electro recalls how he had once been an ordinary lineman who was struck by lightning while working on a telephone pole, granting him his electrical powers. Electro heads to the downtown police station to break out an army of convicts. Spider-Man intervenes and finally defeats Electro, but Jameson is upset to see that the two are separate people. Peter gives Jameson free pictures of Spider-Man and Electro's fight to ease his conscience. Betty is upset with Peter for the seemingly reckless behavior he indulges in as a photographer, hinting at another person she loved who was hurt. However, she apologizes to Peter for her reactions.
