Peter finds Betty Brant Leeds in his apartment. She has separated from Ned, leaving him in Paris, and hints at rekindling things with Peter. Elsewhere, J. Jonah Jameson and Marla Madison visit the cryogenics lab where John is being held in stasis. Dr. Greene tells Jonah they have no cure for John. Meanwhile, Peter attends graduation practice where Betty convinces him to talk to loner transfer student Philip Chang. Peter gets a karate chop to the head for his efforts. Later, after busting up a Dragons’ Chinatown protection racket, Peter meets Betty at a Chinese restaurant where Phil happens to work. Peter tries to talk to Phil again just as the White Dragon busts in and kidnaps him. Spidey tracks them to a mannequin factory but is knocked out by White Dragon’s drugged claws. Upon Philip’s refusal to join the Dragons, White Dragon drops Spidey into a vat of oil and sets it on fire.
