Dr. Jonas Harrow holds Jonah, suffering from amnesia, in his lab, having used him as a test for his madness-inducing variator beam. As Marla and Robbie, also affected by Harrow’s device, discuss using the Bugle to help fi nd Jonah, Harrow turns up his beam causing a frenzy in the Bugle offi ces. Peter fi ghts the effects long enough to clear the offi ce and detect the source, hidden in a roof water tower. After Spidey smashes the beam, Harrow invites him to his lab where he faces a larger beam. Jonah, seeing Spidey, snaps back to reality and frees himself. Spidey cuts Harrow’s power at the same time Jonah attempts to, letting him believe he saved the day. Taking Harrow down, Spidey learns Jonah is back to his old “jolly” self, and, strangely enough, he’s happy about that.
Harrow uses his beam on Jameson at work and in the hospital, weakening his emotional state and driving him mad (ASM #191, 196, 198, 201, 202, ’79-’80).
