Rupert Dockery instructs fi ve thugs in a kidnapping scheme. In Chinatown, Deb Whitman tells Peter she is seeing a fortuneteller, Madame Web. Later, as Dockery introduces reclusive Globe publisher KJ Clayton to her staff, the thugs bust in and snatch her. Spider-Man arrives but is tripped up by Dockery, allowing the thugs to escape. Desperate, Spider-Man visits Madame Web who tells him attractive young model Belinda Bell, not KJ Clayton, is in danger. In an effort to take over the Globe, Dockery had convinced the aging KJ Clayton to hire Belinda to impersonate her in public and had his men kidnap Bell, planning to murder the real Clayton later. As Dockery orders his men to dispose of Bell, Spider-Man follows Madame Web’s directions and saves her, then arrives at the Globe in time to stop Dockery. After Dockery confesses, Clayton suspends the Globe’s publication and retires. A jobless Peter receives a congratulatory phone call from Madame Web, who psychically learned his identity. She tells him he will be employed soon even as J. Jonah Jameson angrily complains that Peter’s line is busy.
