Spider-Man breaks up a gathering of criminals not realizing that one of them is the Chameleon, who uses his quick-change artistry to escape. Mulling over his setbacks with Spider-Man, the Chameleon brings in Kraven the Hunter to best him. Kraven’s arrival in New York brings out Jameson, Betty, Peter, Liz and Flash, with Betty and Liz enduring a frosty first meeting. Some of Kraven’s animals break out of their cages but he quickly recaptures them, demonstrating his prowess. The Chameleon meets with Kraven and they arrange for men to commit crimes in order to draw Spider-Man out so that Kraven can observe his methods. Kraven then engages Spider-Man and roughs him up, forcing Spider-Man to flee. As Peter regains his strength, Aunt May suggests introducing him to her friend Anna’s niece Mary Jane. Still shaky from his first fight, Spider-Man battles Kraven a second time and is briefly tricked by the Chameleon when he impersonates Kraven. Spider-Man finally catches Kraven in his webbing and turns him over to the police. Peter sells Jameson photos of the fight, but finds that Betty is jealous of Liz. Returning home, Peter learns that Mary Jane has a headache and won’t make the arranged date. Elsewhere, Kraven and the Chameleon are deported out of the USA.
