When the Beetle is released from prison, the Human Torch begins to scour the city for him. His girlfriend Dorrie is so annoyed at this that she makes him promise to not flame on for 24 hours. During the following day, Dorrie encounters Peter Parker and decides to feign an interest in him to frustrate Johnny. The Beetle goes after Dorrie to get at the Torch and captures her despite Spider-Man’s efforts. Before he does, Dorrie calls the Torch for help but he thinks she’s teasing him into breaking his promise. When he arrives later and realizes his error, he flames on and attacks Spider-Man, assuming him to be Dorrie’s kidnapper. Spider-Man leads the Torch directly to the Beetle to clear up matters and, although the two initially get in each other’s way, they finally beat the Beetle together.
