  • Desperate for money, Spider-Man fights a gang of burglars, but can’t sell his photos when Foswell arrives and sees that Peter Parker is nowhere around. Jameson decides to send out reporters to ask people why they hate Spider-Man, earning them the ire of Flash Thompson. Jameson’s story attracts psychiatrist Ludwig Rinehart who believes that Spider-Man is on the verge of a mental collapse. News of Rinehart’s theories upsets Peter, who wonders if they could be valid. When he sets out as Spider-Man to find Rinehart he is confronted by ghostly images of Dr. Octopus, the Sandman and the Vulture, convincing him that he is losing his mind. Consulting Rinehart, he nearly reveals his secret identity as therapy when Jameson breaks in, having learned Rinehart is a fraud. Flash follows Jameson, complaining about his recent Spider-Man stories. Rinehart tries to escape, but Spider-Man catches him and exposes him as his enemy Mysterio who admits to using hidden projectors to cast illusions of Doc Ock and the others to convince Spider-Man he was insane. Flash is ecstatic over helping his hero. Returning home, Peter encounters Liz who convinces him to help her with her science lessons.
