  • At Ryker’s Island, a shadowed fi gure rises from the sea and frees the Wizard, sending a sea monster against the guards. At home, Peter Parker soaks his brine-saturated Spidey costume. In the hall, he meets a gorgeous new neighbor that leaves him unenthusiastic about Deb Whitman, who passionately kisses him on their date but gets little response. Hearing of a giant mechanical spider on the World Trade Center, Pete dons his sopping-wet, now-faded costume. The Wizard and his com- panion await, planning to follow Spidey with a spider-sense tracing device. Spidey knocks the spider off the building. It explodes on the ground. The Wizard and friend then track Spidey to his apartment building. As Peter sews a new costume, his gorgeous neighbor invites him to a rent strike meeting on the roof, where derelict “Wino Charlie” has fallen asleep. Diverted by a subway collapse rescue, Spidey misses the meeting, apparently staged by the Wizard and his ally to assure that Spidey would be on the roof. Spidey spots and battles the villains next door but the Wizard ignites a firebomb on Pete’s building. Spidey rescues his neighbors but, returning for Wino Charlie, falls through the roof.

Llyra stays shadowed throughout this issue; her identity is revealed in ASM #214, ’81, and her disguise as Peter’s neighbor in ASM #215, ’81.
