Seconds before Puma can deliver a deathblow to Spider-Man, the Black Cat attacks him. He senses her bad luck powers but the roof gives way beneath him anyway. As the Cat and a now-conscious Spidey depart, Puma tracks them. In Peter’s apartment, the black costume initially resists Spidey’s mental order to leave him while the Cat can hardly bear to look at humdrum Peter Parker. Elsewhere, the Arranger informs the Kingpin that the Rose has hired an assassin to eliminate Spider-Man. Meanwhile, the Cat leaves Peter’s place, providing the Puma his opportunity. However, Mary Jane arrives and Peter must shove her into the hall as the Puma attacks. Spidey maneuvers the battle outside just as MJ breaks back in. Summoning the Rose to his offi ces, the Kingpin tells him he doesn’t wish Spider-Man killed. After a prolonged battle, during which Puma surprises Spidey by informing him his black costume’s webbing is organic, the web-slinger falls hard on the roof of a bus after saving a crowd from falling machinery. Now believing Spider-Man is deserving of an honorable death, Puma departs. The Rose cancels his contract with Puma, submitting to the Kingpin’s power. Soon after, the Hobgoblin arrives, offering an alliance against the Kingpin of Crime. Peter returns home where MJ tells him she’s always known he is Spider-Man but can’t take it any longer.
