Firelord attacks Spider-Man, who, hoping to limit his maneuverability, leads Firelord into an offi ce building. At the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson, wondering why Spidey is using two costumes, meets arrogant new city editor, Kate Cushing. Meanwhile, Spidey leads Firelord into Grand Central Station, and down a subway tunnel to crash into a train. Firelord is only slowed, however. While news of the rampage reaches Avengers Mansion, Spider-Man lures Firelord into an aban-doned building just as it is demolished, then into a gas station, where Firelord inadvertently ignites a fire that devastates an entire block of abandoned buildings; all to no avail. The desperate hero hits Firelord with a superfast barrage of blows. The Avengers arrive and point out that Spidey has knocked Firelord out without even realizing it.
