At Coney Island, Spidey and Sable battle the Beetle, Boomerang, Rhino, Hydro-Man and Speed Demon. Declaring themselves the Sinister Syndicate, the villains admit Jack hired them. Meanwhile, Ned leaves Betty over Flash. Jason Macendale offers his services to the Kingpin, who turns him down. At Kingsley Ltd, Roderick Kingsley is apparently working with the Hobgoblin. Macendale offers his services to the Rose. At Coney Island, Spidey injures his arm while Sable sprains both ankles. He takes her to the Cyclone roller coaster for safety but the villains smash it down, drawing the attention of the reformed Sandman, out for a stroll. Mary Jane runs into the Hobgoblin’s civilian identity; someone she knows. Spidey and Sable dig out of the Cyclone’s rubble, finding themselves surrounded by the Sinister Syndicate.
Spider-Man returns and sees Silver Sable’s ad. Curious, he pays her a visit but declines her offer. However, Flash Thompson’s case starts looking grim after Sha Shan refuses to testify on his behalf. Sharon Banks tells Peter they need money to mount a decent defense so Spidey takes Sable’s job. Sable tells him Jack O’ Lantern arranged a meeting at Coney Island at midnight. They expect a trap.
The scene that appears to show Roderick Kingsley speaking to the Hobgoblin actually depicts Daniel Kingsley speaking to his brother Roderick in his Hobgoblin identity as revealed in SM:HL #3, ’97.
