Peter Parker, still distraught over his Uncle Ben's death, leams his Aunt May can't afford to pay the rent To mate money, he returns to show business as Spider-Man. Maxie, his agent, insists on paying him with a check that the bank wont cash for him without identification. Then Daily Bugle publisher J. J. Jonah Jameson begins writing and lecturing against Spider-Man, praising his own son, astronaut John Jameson as a real hero, which finishes Spider-Man in show business, forcing Peter to search, unsuccessfully, for another job. The next day, John Jameson is launched into space. When the capsule separates from the rocket, component 24-3B of the forward guidance package breaks loose causing Jameson to lose control. With Mission Control tailing to rescue the capsule, Spider-Man volunteers to install a spare 24-3B unit He hitches a ride with a jet pilot, shoots a web line at the passing capsule and pulls himself to the nose cone where he installs the unit saving John Jameson. Later, thinking that even Jonah Jameson would now hire him, Peter is shocked to leam the publisher has demanded his arrest and prosecution, claiming Spider-Man sabotaged the mission. The FBI issues a reward for his capture and the public comes to believe he is a criminal, leaving Peter to wonder what he can possibly do.
