  • Amidst a round of training at the Avengers mansion, Quicksilver demonstrates that he has learned how to fly briefly, while Hercules challenges Captain America for the right of leadership. Attorney Ebeneezer Wallaby visits the mansion to award Jan her estate inheritance, making her a millionaire. Hawkeye leaves the others to meet with Bruiser Bates, a criminal informant, hunting for the Black Widow’s location, eventually getting the information from Bates after a barroom brawl. Back at the mansion he enlists Hercules’ aid, and the two fly off to China. Meanwhile, at Colonel Ling’s base, the Colonel’s Russian ally General Brushov is visiting, and they test the abilities of the Red Guardian, a Russian counterpart to Captain America. When Hercules and Hawkeye arrive they make short work of the base’s soldiers, but the Red Guardian knocks Hawkeye unconsious, and Hercules is trapped within the Psychotron, battling an imaginary Hydra. Hawkeye awakens alongside the similarly imprisoned Black Widow, and is shocked to discover that the Red Guardian is the Widow’s estranged husband!

A fight advert on the wall of the bar reads “Slammer Sauron vs. Freddy Frodo”, a reference to the “Lord of the Rings” books. This is the 1st time Quicksilver uses his powers for limited flight. Janet Van Dyne is noted as having just had her 23rd birthday.
