  • Goliath performs experiments on himself, attempting unsuccessfully to regain his growth powers. Meanwhile, on a spaceship far above, the Collector schemes with his newest prize, Thor, to acquire the rest of the Avengers for his collection. Later, as Goliath and Hawkeye visit Jan at her pool, a trap pulls the three heroes into the Collector’s spaceship. Once there, the Collector performs his own experiments on Goliath to fix his growth powers, stating he doesn’t want a flawed creature in his collection. Seeking more Avengers for his collection, the Collector observes that Captain America is currently in the middle of a battle alongside Black Panther (ToS #99/2, ’68) and that the Hulk recently entered Asgard. Choosing a closer target, he sends Thor to retrieve Iron Man; while they battle, back on the ship the Wasp escapes and frees her teammates. The Collector has his Robotoid attack them, but when its control device is shattered, the Collector flees to another dimension to avoid the Robotoid’s wrath. With the Robotoid rampaging around the ship, Goliath discovers his growth powers have returned and uses them to defeat the monster. In the city below Thor has just overpowered Iron Man when the Collector’s control abruptly lifts. Later, back at Avengers mansion, the Avengers receive a call from Captain America suggesting that his friend the Black Panther join the Avengers as Cap’s replacement; trusting Cap’s judgment, the team agrees.

Brought aboard the Collector’s ship, Thor unwittingly drinks an obedience potion, becoming the Collector’s slave (p).

The letters pages features LOC from future comic book writers Doug Moench (co-creator of future Avengers member Moon Knight) and Tony Isabella. The battle the Collector spots Cap and Black Panther fighting is during ToS #99, ’68; by the end of this issue, when Cap contacts the Avengers, that battle has ended with Cap #100, ’68
