  • Arriving at Avengers Mansion the Black Panther is attacked by the Mansion’s security system. Evading it, he stumbles across Hawkeye, Goliath and the Wasp’s seemingly lifeless bodies; moments later Jasper Sitwell arrives at the Mansion, and mistakenly arrests the Black Panther for the murders. While the Panther is taken into custody, word quickly spreads of the Avengers’ demise, delighting the Grim Reaper, the real culprit, who blames the Avengers for his brother Wonder Man’s death. Escaping police custody the Panther returns to Avengers Mansion to search for clues as to who framed him, only to find the Grim Reaper there. The two battle, with the Reaper letting slip that his scythe can bring back the Avengers from their near death state. When the Reaper falls on his own weapon, the Panther leaves the seemingly fatally injured villain and races with the scythe back to the hospital, where he cures the Avengers of their comatose condition. Returning to the mansion they discover the Reaper faked his death and has fled. Thanking the Panther again, the team unanimously votes him in as an Avenger.

Wonder Man fights the Avengers (Av #9, ’64). Breaking into the Mansion, Grim Reaper seemingly slays the Avengers (p).
