  • After finishing upgrading their security systems at Avengers Mansion, the Avengers break up for the evening, with Wasp noticing that Jarvis is acting strangely. The butler leaves the mansion and heads to a rundown city block, where he enters the secret headquarters of the Crimson Cowl, a new villain leading a new Masters of Evil. Jarvis has agreed to sell floor plans of the Avengers mansion to the villains, but the Cowl refuses to uphold the bargain, instead knocking Jarvis out. Having joined the Masters secretly intending to thwart their plans, the Black Knight heads to Avengers Mansion, but the other Masters catch him and beat him, then launch their attack against the Avengers, systematically defeating the heroes. When the subdued Avengers conclude they were betrayed, the villains activate a monitor screen so that the Cowl can speak to them. The Cowl reveals that it was a robot who addressed the Masters earlier, before unmasking to reveal that he is really Jarvis!

A young T’Challa shatters Klaw’s hand (FF #53, ’66). Radioactive Man battles Thor but Iron Man captures him with a “transistorpowered ejector” (Av #6, ’64). The Black Knight receives a letter meant for his late, villainous, uncle, inviting him to join the new Masters of Evil. Replying out of curiosity, he joins up intending to betray his teammates to the Avengers (p).

The letters page of this issue features a LOC from writers Don and Maggie Thompson. The Wasp’s dialogue makes it clear that she still employs her chauffeur “Charles,” and so is clearly unaware he is really Whirlwind.
