Having received a resignation letter from Jarvis mentioning the founders disbanding the Avengers, Iron Man summons Captain America, Thor and Henry Pym to Avengers Mansion to investigate. The Vision arrives and collapses, and Pym, in his Ant-Man identity, shrinks down and enters the android’s body to fix his damaged brain. His job done, Ant-Man leaves and the revived Vision brings them up to date on the team’s disbanding, and how a fake Fantastic Four subsequently captured Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. At the farmhouse Goliath finds Rick Jones, and both are attacked by the Skrull “FF,” but the other Avengers arrive to assist them. Inside the Skrulls’ farmhouse ship, Captain Marvel escapes his bonds and frees fellow captive Carol Danvers. He builds an Omni-Wave Projector to let his fellow Kree know that Skrulls are on Earth, but when Carol calls him Mar-Vell, his Kree name that she shouldn’t know, he destroys the device and “Carol” reveals herself to be the Super-Skrull, then gasses Marvel unconscious. As the Avengers defeat the fake FF, the Super-Skrull launches the Skrull ship into space with the captive Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Marvel aboard.
Ultron-1 attacks Goliath (Av #58, ’68 fb). “H. Warren Craddock” presides at the Avengers’ court hearing and the Avengers are disbanded (Av #92, ’71). Three Skrulls assume the forms of the Human Torch, Mr. Fantastic and the Thing (FF #2, ’62). The disbanded Avengers drive to Marvel’s farmhouse retreat, where Goliath wanders off and Skrulls disguised as the three of the Fantastic Four capture Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch while the Vision escapes (1). A Skrull hyper-beam from space revives three Skrulls trapped in cow form (2).
Henry Pym readopts his Ant-Man identity. His observation of a peculiarity in the Vision’s body is the first hint that the Vision has the original Human Torch’s body, a fact that isn’t revealed until Av #135, ’75. Quicksilver begins to suspect the budding relationship between Scarlet Witch and Vision. The Scarlet Witch’s comment that Tony Stark leases Quinjets to the Avengers is incorrect; Av #61, ’69 established that the Black Panther supplies the craft.
