  • Triton emerges from the sewers near Avengers Mansion, in the middle of their battle with the Mandroids. When the Mandroids are defeated, Triton warns the Avengers that Maximus has become ruler of the Inhumans and seeks to form an alliance with the Kree. When Triton asks for their aid in locating Black Bolt, the Vision insists that their priority must be to rescuing the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. The Avengers split up, with Cap, Goliath, Rick and Triton racing to San Francisco where they rescue Black Bolt from mobsters, while the other team deals with the Mandroids, revived via remote-control. Thor transports them to outside the great dome of Attilan, where the others soon join them, and Black Bolt shatters Attilan’s dome with his voice. The Avengers storm the Inhuman capital, driving out the Kree and defeating Maximus, but a fleeing Kree captures Rick Jones. In a faraway galaxy the Kree’s Supreme Intelligence notes that the final phase is about to begin, while back on Earth the Avengers vow to take the fight to the Kree and Skrull in space.

Maximus gains mental powers and takes over Attilan. After Maximus wipes his memories, Black Bolt walks San Francisco’s streets (AA #8-10, ’71-72). Vision stands over a captured Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (Av #94, ’71). Triton emerges on land, evades dockworkers, and steals a van, but is forced to abandon it and seek refuge in the sewers when he encounters a roadblock and is shot at by the police (1). Black Bolt watches as his brother Maximus uses his mind control powers for petty amusement. When he later witnesses Maximus plotting with Kree soldiers, Black Bolt uses his voice to down the Kree’s ship, but in doing so apparently drives the nearby Maximus insane (2).
