Believing Spider-Man is gone, the Kingpin begins to consolidate his hold over the underworld. He orders J. J. Jonah Jameson be brought to him to silence his editorials and dispatches Big Turk with others of his men to collect protection money from service stations. However, Spider-Man intervenes and the criminals are forced to flee. As the Kingpin takes Foswell on as a lieutenant, Big Turk returns, angered that Spider-Man ruined their work. He attacks the Kingpin but is swiftly bested. Peter stops by the Bugle and hears that Foswell is missing. Peter soon comes across more of the Kingpin’s men holding up a nightclub manager and becomes Spider-Man to thwart it. Meanwhile, the Kingpin’s men take Jameson hostage. Spider-Man follows a spider-tracer he planted on one of the Kingpin’s men back to the Kingpin and fights him, but is defeated when the Kingpin fires knockout gas from his tie-pin into his face.
