The Avengers barge into Dr. Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum and see Black Knight’s stone body before they are mystically expelled. Inside, Dr. Strange and his fellow Defenders review the history of the Evil Eye, which they were tricked into believing would break the spell responsible for Black Knight’s stone form. Strange sends the Defenders to the locations of the Evil Eye’s parts. Having second thoughts about Dormammu’s scheme, Loki appears before the Avengers and tells them to stop the Defenders, whom he portrays as villains. Vision and Scarlet Witch jet to Rurutu in French Polynesia, where Silver Surfer’s search for the Evil Eye inadvertently triggers a volcanic eruption. The device surfaces as Vision battles the Surfer, but Vision allows the Surfer to take the Eye in order to save Scarlet Witch from a lava flow. The Surfer resolves to tell his fellow Defenders that the Avengers are after the Evil Eye for their own ends.
Human Torch and Wyatt Wingfoot encounter Prester John and the Evil Eye (FF #54, ’66). The Evil Eye splits into six pieces that are scattered throughout the world.
