A mental blast from Stranger alerts the Avengers to the fact that the alien seeks Scarlet Witch. Not knowing her true location, Thor and Moondragon go to the Florida Keys to pretend to warn her and lure the villain. When Stranger appears, Beast, Iron Man and Yellowjacket track his power source to a spaceship. The trio storms the vessel, and when the Beast startles him, the Stranger is revealed to be Toad, who had been using the Stranger’s technology to impersonate him. Anguished and enraged that Toad injured his wife, Yellowjacket jeopardizes his own health by using his shrinking power to fight Toad. The Avengers defeat the villain, who reveals that he sought revenge upon learning that the object of his unrequited love, Scarlet Witch, had married Vision. Unnoticed by his teammates, Yellowjacket winces in pain.
Stranger takes Magneto and Toad to his world (X #11, ’65). Toad teams up with Magneto (Av #53, ’68). Arkon captures Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch and the Avengers come to the rescue (Av #75-76, ’70). Toad escapes from Stranger’s prison planet.
