The distraught Yellowjacket demands that the captive Toad cure the comatose Wasp, but the mutant claims he is unable to do so and is taken away by police. Whirlwind suddenly appears and attempts to abduct Wasp from her hospital room, but Moondragon drives him off. As Thor and Beast stand guard over the Wasp, Iron Man and Moondragon travel to Latveria in search of Hawkeye and discover that the time machine he intended to use isn’t there. Whirlwind attacks Yellowjacket at the Pyms’ home but flees when the hero draws his cellular disruptor gun, a weapon few people have seen. Deducing that Whirlwind is Wasp’s ex-chauffeur Charles Matthews, Yellowjacket finds the villain and fights him with no holds barred, stretching his size-changing powers to their limits despite the risk to his own health. Beast arrives and vanquishes Whirlwind as Yellowjacket gets his pain under control.
The Human Top attacks Giant-Man and Wasp (TTA #50, ’63). Charles Matthews chauffeurs Yellowjacket and Wasp (1). Yellowjacket and Wasp play at home (2).
The dialog that suggests that Dr. Doom’s time machine has always been in Latveria is incorrect; the Latverian time machine is a duplicate of the one the Avengers used in Doom’s Adirondack castle in Av #56 and Av Ann #2, ’68, and was built after MSH #20, ’69, as revealed in OMIMTU #2, ’86. The Whirlwind sings “They Call the Wind Maria,” a song from the musical “Paint Your Wagon.” Letters page contains a LOC from Peter Sanderson, later comic book historian.
