Directed by their world’s US President and Cadre Cartel head Nelson Rockefeller, the Squadron Supreme seek to retrieve Rockefeller’s mystic Serpent Crown, recently stolen by the Avengers. The Squadron’s Amphibian, Cap’n Hawk and Tom Thumb pursue Avengers trainees Beast & Hellcat while Dr. Spectrum and Whizzer go after senior Avengers Captain America and Iron Man. Hellcat’s agility defeats an overconfident Amphibian, Beast and Hellcat join forces to defeat Tom Thumb, Beast tricks a bloodthirsty Cap’n Hawk into knocking himself out, Captain America downs a cocky Whizzer with a boomerang-style shield toss, and Iron Man nullifies Spectrum’s prism using his ultra violet beam. The four victorious heroes reunite with their teammates Vision and Scarlet Witch, who have the Serpent Crown and warn of its ability to mentally influence the people around it. Trying to make the Squadron realize how they have been manipulated, Vision has Beast pose as Nelson Rockefeller long enough to lecture the Squadron about their mistakes before the Avengers head back to their own Earth. Starting to realize their folly, the Squadron do not pursue them. Meanwhile, back on the Avengers’ Earth, Moondragon tells an offended Thor that Avengers membership is beneath him, and a recovered Janet Pym tells her husband Hank she is rejoining the Avengers with or without him.
