  • Spider-Man and the Kingpin fight. The Kingpin throws Spidey into the brainwashing machine’s power source, short-circuiting it. Weakened, Spidey escapes as the Kingpin restores the power whereupon Winkler finishes brainwashing Captain Stacy. Meanwhile, MJ tells Gwen and Harry about the Spider-Man battle she witnessed but the brainwashed Stacy appears and assures them all is well. Gwen wonders where Peter is but he heads home as the electric shock has given him severe double vision. In bed, Peter worries over Stacy’s condition, admitting to himself that he loves Gwen. His vision improving, Peter visits the Stacys. One on one, Peter’s questions provoke the brainwashed Stacy into attacking him with his cane. Instinctively retaliating, Peter knocks Stacy down just before Gwen enters. Stacy accuses Peter of attacking for no reason. Heartbroken, Gwen tells Peter she never wants to see him again. Later, Stacy calls the Kingpin, informing him of Peter’s questions. The Kingpin sends two gunmen to Peter’s apartment to silence him. As Peter visits Aunt May, now out of the hospital, the gunmen rough up Harry. Learning of this, Peter as Spidey tails Stacy and the gunmen into police headquarters where Stacy opens a vault full of police files. Setting his camera, Spidey crashes in and fights the gunmen but is struck from behind by Stacy's cane. As Stacy concocts an alibi blaming Spider-Man, Peter develops his photos proving Stacy stole files. Feeling Stacy can't be helped until the Kingpin is beaten, Peter sells the photos to Jameson who prints one on front page. Gwen sees the article, noticing that Peter took the incriminating picture.
