Renewing his romance with Vera Cantor, Beast brings her to the mansion where a Skrull posing as Jarvis gives her poisoned tea. The Skrull offers to resurrect Vera if the Avengers retrieve pieces of a stone hurled into Earth’s past. Mr. Fantastic sends them to the period of the Black Death and they battle Devlunn, a child abusing the power of the stone. Then, they visit WWII Germany as the Allies liberate Dachau, and find a death camp survivor blindly using the stone to animate his dead family; Beast convinces the man to let them rest and hand over the stone. Back in the present, Beast thinks about the way the stone worked in the two past times, and decides it best to destroy the stone. After the Avengers take the Skrull down, Reed tells Beast the poison is extremely slow acting; though comatose, Vera is not dead, and Reed places her in suspended animation in the hopes a cure can be found.
