Thor and She-Hulk materialize at Avengers Mansion and defeat Bres before he can kill Dr. Druid. In 12th-century Avalon, Black Knight helps Captain America, Hawkeye and Wasp retreat from Balor. Amergin and Black Knight confess that they used the Avengers to flush out Balor, whose power Amergin needs to activate the Evil Eye, a weapon that can defeat the Fomor. Amergin teleports to the Fomor and begins to drain Balor with the Evil Eye. The Avengers assault the Fomor to buy time for the High Druid, but the Fomor leader, Elathan, fatally attacks Amergin. Balor swipes the Eye, which transmutes the giant into energy and absorbs him. Black Knight picks up the weapon and uses it to seal off the gateway to Earth, knowing that doing so will destroy him and his teammates. Instead of perishing, however, the Avengers appear back in Avengers Mansion. Dr. Druid snaps out of his trance and shows the team that Amergin’s fi nal spell repaired Black Knight’s shattered statue in Garrett Castle, and returned Black Knight’s spirit home to it.
Returned to modern-day Earth for the fi rst time since Def #4, ’73, Black Knight’s Hulk Comic appearances, published in the UK in 1979, chronologically occur after this story. Amergin’s spell also transports Black Knight’s 12th-century flying horse, Valinor, to the present.
