Framed for treason, fugitive Hank Pym reluctantly aids in the immortality research of his captors, the criminals who framed him: Egghead’s Masters of Evil. Meanwhile, the media covers the Avengers’ troubles, notably Pym’s situation and Iron Man’s disappearance. A concerned Captain Marvel fl ies to Avengers Mansion where she fi nds the group demoralized, especially a badly shaken She-Hulk, trapped in human form as Jen Walters. Scott Lang brings the team Tony Stark’s cerebral scanner, which Stark had asked Lang to complete for him just before Stark disappeared. Lang offers to assist the Avengers as Ant-Man, but Wasp declines, not wanting reminders of her ex-husband Pym’s Ant-Man days right now. When the Avengers sadly note they can no longer use the scanner to mentally examine Pym, Captain Marvel gives the senior members an aggressive pep talk, and gives them the idea to use the scanner on one of Pym’s accusers, Shocker. At the same time, Hawkeye cunningly mocks and insults Jen until she overcomes her mental block and regains her She-Hulk form. After using the cerebral scanner to prove that Egghead brainwashed Shocker into incriminating Pym, the Avengers race to Egghead’s suburban lair, where Pym has already defeated the Masters using weapons he secretly built in their own lab. When Egghead tries to shoot the exiting Pym in the back, Hawkeye plugs Egghead’s blaster with an arrow, and the villain is accidentally killed by his own gun’s backfire.
