After escorting the Lava Men back to their tunnel, the Avengers discuss the possibility of having Spider-Man join, ultimately agreeing to let him be an Avenger-in-training. Meanwhile, the escaped villains form a plan. As the heroes start to leave the complex, the antigravity elevator they are using fails, though Spider-Man breaks their fall with webbing. Suspecting sabotage, the Avengers track the villains to the Nuclear Dome. The heroes defeat Electro and Rhino, but Blackout and Moonstone escape, with Moonstone destroying the nuclear control panel. To stop an overload, Spider-Man guides Captain Marvel in putting the nuclear rods back into place. Later, back at Avengers Mansion, the Avengers call the National Security Council to get clearance for Spider-Man, but NSC Agent Sikorski refuses to approve this since the NSC considers Spider-Man a major security risk. Annoyed, Spider-Man leaves, deciding he’d rather not join a team after all.
