The Adaptoid immobilizes Captain Marvel and hacks into the Avengers’ computers for information about his quarry, the Cosmic Cube. Machine Man has a change of heart and joins Hydrobase’s proprietor, Stingray, in attacking Super-Adaptoid, but they fail to stop him from summoning the Cosmic Cube from space. The Cube transforms into a humanoid form called Kubik and refuses to help the Adaptoid conquer the world, but the villainous robot replicates Kubik’s form and reality-altering powers.

Kubik is a manifestation of the Cosmic Cube’s maturation process, an evolution begun in Cap Ann #7, ’83.
