  • The Lizard rampages through the Galby building determined to destroy Spider-Man, who escorts Martha and Billy Connors to a hotel to hide them. As he departs, Spidey vows no harm will come to Curt. Back home, Peter calls Aunt May in Florida. He then visits Gwen who worries about his recent distance and wonders if he’s found someone new. Peter assures her that isn’t so. In the next room, George Stacy and Joe Robertson discuss Spider-Man and wonder what motivates him. Joining Peter and Gwen, they ask Pete, as Spidey’s main photographer, if he can provide any details that could help determine the wall-crawler’s identity. Before Pete can answer, Gwen protests. Her father backs off, letting the young couple go out on their date. The next morning Peter awakes to a report of the Lizard terrorizing people on the East Side. He heads out as Spidey, finds the Lizard, and battles him across rooftops for several blocks. Trying to not hurt Dr. Connors, Spidey takes a terrible beating. Exhausted, Spidey allows the Lizard to toss him into a brick wall, and then drop him off the roof, hoping to ambush him. However, the Human Torch flies by, catches Spidey, and returns him to the roof. Spidey knows the Torch will not hold back in a battle with the Lizard but Spidey is still too weak from the battle to stop him.

The Lizard vs. Spider-Man in a refrigerated train car; cold defeats him from ASM #45, ’67.
