Black Knight and Crystal accidentally interrupt Vision viewing a holographic memory of himself kissing Scarlet Witch, trying in vain to trigger his lost emotional capacity. A supportive Crystal tells Vision she’s here if he needs her, then exits, and a seemingly jealous Knight warns Vision to be careful with the emotionally fragile Crystal, though he denies any romantic interest himself when Vision hints at suspecting this. Laura Lipton, whose father-in-law, Miles, once programmed Vision with her murdered husband Alex’s engrams, visits the synthozoid. Vision initially declines her plea to visit the terminally ill Miles, but Crystal urges him to go. Out at a bar, Dane Whitman and Hercules spot a woman resembling Magdalene. Hercules pursues the woman, who identifies herself as Marissa Darrow and threatens to sue Hercules for harassment. Laura, Crystal and Vision travel to the Liptons’ beach house, where Miles is watching videos of Alex. Miles asks Vision to let him awaken Alex’s engrams so they can say goodbye. Marissa returns home to find Magdalene and Proctor waiting; having followed her, Hercules and Dane hear her scream, but burst in to find the apartment burned and empty. Vision emerges from Miles’ process speaking with Alex’s voice, giving Miles and Laura final moments with “Alex” before Miles dies and Vision reverts to his usual self. Crystal asks him if the programming failed and he just mimicked Alex’s personality from the videos to comfort the Liptons, but the android, hiding a tear, simply suggests that they return home.
Vision met the Liptons in AvS #40, ’91. Marissa’s apartment is number #14. Captain America appears in the cover’s corner box despite leaving the team in Cap #401, ’92.
