The Lunatic Legion arrives on Crail to inform the Mephitisoid he has them to thank for his release. Spying on them from nearby, Deathcry and Alabar are confronted by Dylon Cir. Deathcry takes him down and Alabar uses Mephitisoid pheromones to control Cir into taking them “prisoner” and leading them to the Mephitisoid’s base, a tavern, where Vision is held in a stasis field guarded by Swordsman and Magdalene. They attack and have Cir free Vision. Vision takes down the Mephitisoid and gives Alabar Kona’s spear, but instead of using it on the Mephitisoid, Alabar gives it to him in atonement for his war crimes. The Mephitisoid kills Alabar, and orders Magdalene to destroy the Vision; Deathcry snatches Magdalene’s staff, using it to kill the Mephitisoid. The Lunatic Legion teleport away, their plan to use the Mephitisoid thwarted but armed with the knowledge of Alabar’s crimes, information that they can use to foment trouble within the Shi’ar Empire. No longer able to trust the precepts she was raised with, Deathcry comes to doubt everything she was taught.
During the war, Alabar leads his men to an abbey where they are healed and cared for by Mephitisoid women, contrary to Shi’ar perceptions of their race. With morale low, Alabar kills all the women, then distills their pheromones, using the ether to make his troops follow him fanatically and win the war for the empire.
