Hotshot and Jailbait survey the blast crater from the nuke used to kill the Hulk. The Avengers arrive and capture Hotshot and Jailbait, thinking them in league with Hulk. Thor appears and somberly reports the Hulk’s death. In the Grand Canyon, the soldiers who shot down Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch find the pair unconscious near the wrecked Hex-Ship, unaware that Giant-Man and Wasp are nearby searching for their comrades. Hotshot and Jailbait tell the Avengers of two more gamma bombs planted by Omnibus. Waking, Hawkeye uses a smoke arrow for cover, grabs Wanda and dives into a nearby river, barely evading the soldiers’ gunfire. The Vision, Swordsman, Masque and Hotshot disable one of the G-bombs in St. Louis, but Masque injures Hotshot with her taser in the process. Thor, Black Widow, and Jailbait find the second G-bomb at the New Orleans Superdome, and Thor hurls it through a dimensional rift. Hawkeye and Wanda disable the soldiers via guerrilla tactics and are soon rescued by Hank and Jan. At Avengers Mansion, while Hawkeye deduces that the soldiers he and Wanda fought were under Omnibus’ orders, Wanda and the Widow go to the med-lab to question Hotshot and Jailbait further, but find them gone.
Hotshot and the citizens of Freehold attack Omnibus (Hulk #440, ’96).
Last issue to carry the “Marvel Universe” trade dress. Continues from Hulk #440, ’96, where Thor and Hulk fought just before the government dropped a nuke on them both. Thor regained his godly powers in a pfb in that issue. Though described as the villain behind the bombs, Hulk #436, ’95 revealed Omnibus is under the Leader’s mental control. Moonraker, still a Space Phantom, remains a covert villain.
