Exiting his elevator, the Kingpin fi nds Vanessa who claims she hid because she found the scene distasteful. In his car, the Schemer is so upset by Vanessa that he crashes. In his apartment, Peter broods about being broke, Gwen’s upcoming birthday, and the reward for the Schemer. Gwen and her father visit. George asks Pete for details on his Spidey-photography. Pete excuses himself and returns as Spider-Man, claiming that Parker owes him money for their photography deal. He lingers until George and Gwen leave, then searches for the Schemer. At home, the Bugle photos of his Schemer-Spidey encounter stun the Kingpin. One shows Vanessa helping the Schemer escape but she refuses to explain. Elsewhere, Spidey finds the Schemer’s wrecked car but triggers the booby trap. Following the footprints, he fi nds the Schemer who fights back with his sword rod and stun nozzle, fi nally escaping by tossing a smoke grenade. As George and Gwen return to Peter’s apartment and find him missing, Spidey clears the smoke with a web bolo and captures the Schemer. Taking him to the address offering the reward, Spidey finds it a ruse staged by the Kinpin who drops a magnetically-constricting steel net on him, then forces the truth from the Schemer. He is the Kingpin’s son Richard determined to atone for years of living on crime-money. This revelation jars the Kingpin into an open-eyed unseeing state of shock. Vanessa arrives, her Schemer suspicions confi rmed. Spidey breaks free but decides to leave the Fisk family to their own fate.
Richard at school in Switzerland, learns his father is the Kingpin of Crime, stages his death in the Alps, creates mask & weapons, recruits men and becomes the Schemer.
