Uatu continues his tale of the Serpent Crown’s history.
Paul Destine campaigns for the U.S. Presidency (Sub #6, ’68). Paul Destine joins an Antarctic expedition to learn more about his psionic abilities. The expedition finds a Lemurian dynamo inside a cave. Destine activates it, causing an avalanche that traps him in the cave. He finds the disguised Serpent Crown, which he dubs the Helmet of Power, and puts it on (IM/SM #1/2, ’68). Destine emerges from suspended animation a more powerful being and renames himself Destiny. He triggers an earthquake that decimates Atlantis and kills the Sub-Mariner’s mother and grandfather, then sends Namor to New York with his memories erased (Sub #1, ’68). Namor, his memory restored, battles Destiny (IM/SM #1/2, ’68). Namor barges in on Destiny’s televised speech and the two come to blows. Destiny subdues Namor and throws him off a roof, but becomes insanely enraged when Namor survives the fall. Thinking he no longer needs the Helmet of Power, he casts it aside and leaps from the roof, unwittingly committing suicide (Sub #7, ’68).
Continues a history of the Serpent Crown narrated by Uatu that runs through the “Atlantis Attacks” annuals. Both the main story and the Serpent Crown backup are preceded by DD Ann #5, ’89, and continued in NM Ann #9, ’89.
