A group of five travelers checks into the hotel run by the family of Avengers fan Hubie Green, who wrote to the local newspaper about the Sons of the Serpent’s activity in his hometown, hoping that the Avengers would respond. After his older brother Luke denounces his Avengers fandom, Hubie’s melancholy becomes elation when he spots the five guests, in actuality the Avengers, leaving the hotel in costume to battle the Sons. Hubie races to tell Luke, but finds him wearing a Sons of the Serpent costume and speaking to his cohorts about attacking New York and Los Angeles with nuclear weapons. A stunned Hubie tells the Avengers Luke’s plans, and Luke is arrested. The next day, Hubie discards his Avengers clippings, still an Avengers fan but now aware of the cost of heroism.
