A wizard cabal, seeking artifacts of immortality and weapons of destruction, invades Avengers HQ looking for Dr. Druid. The Avengers defeat them, but Black Knight learns his Ebony Blade is one of their targets. Other cabal members break into Whitman manor, overpowering Whitman’s butler, Catherwood, and squire, Sean. When Victoria is threatened, Sean grabs the Ebony Blade and becomes Bloodwraith, killing the two invaders. Under the blood curse’s thrall, Sean attempts to kill his friends until the Avengers intervene. The Ebony Blade easily renders them ineffective, leaving it up to the Black Knight. He tries to reclaim the sword and get through to Sean, but Bloodwraith gets the upper hand. Knight gives Bloodwraith free passage as the Avengers recover and Sean takes off with the sword and Valinor.
