The New Warriors, alongside Justice and Firestar, trounce a gang of arms dealers. Night Thrasher lets one escape, since he tagged him with a tracer to trail him to their supplier. While monitoring the tracer at the Warriors’ Crash Pad, Vance learns the team has been drifting apart since he and Angel left. At Avengers Mansion, the Avengers meet to appoint a deputy leader and the Scarlet Witch is shocked to find herself the likeliest candidate. The Warriors track their quarry to an AIM warehouse, but a being called Lord Templar bursts in during the ensuing battle and claims AIM’s weaponry for himself. Templar handily fends off the Warriors, prompting Firestar to summon the Avengers for help. Both teams hold their own but the battle is cut short when an exposed cache of Antarctic Vibranium cause the stored weaponry to destabilize. Templar escapes, and the heroes barely evacuate before the warehouse explodes. At the mansion, Wanda accepts the deputy leader position and Vance decides to return to the Warriors, but Angel unknowingly prevents him from saying so by telling him she wants to move into the mansion. Elsewhere, Templar assures his employers that his plans for the Avengers are just beginning.
Justice and Firestar remain New Warriors reserve members. Each of Templar’s avatars has a different ability: one has enhanced strength, one leeches superhuman energies, one controls electricity, and one is an acrobat. Tony is seen developing new armor after learning from Pym in IM #12, ’99 that his current armor is killing him. Templar lies to Wanda about the world’s governments allying themselves with him as a part of a scheme that begins unfolding in Av #15, ’99, which also reveals Templar’s connection to Jonathan Tremont.
